Hess's law's states that the total energy or enthalphy change for a chemical reaction is the same whatever route is taken.
eg ethyne + H2 (g) = ethane
OR
ethyne + 1 mole of H2(g) = ethene, -176 Kj mol
ethene + 1 mole of H2(g) = ethane, -137 kj mol
Therefore, hess laws tells us that enthalphy change >1= >2 + >3
ethyne + 2H2 = ethane >1, ? kj mol
ethyne + H2= ethene, >2, -176 kj mol
ethene + H2=ethane >3, -137 kj mol
So, >1= -176 + (-137) = -313 kj mol-1
The law is sometime called 'Law of constant heat summation'
Just remember: If reactants can be converted into products by a series of reactions, the sum of these reactions (regards to their sign) is equal to the heat of reaction for direct conversion from reactants to products.

Nuuuu! Not that tuna pizza again.. nuuu! I had nightmares since then.. lolz nah.. Ligands are molecules with lone pairs that can donate the lone pairs to a central atom by forming dative bonds with the central atom. Just had a test on chem today.. So, I can still remember.  |

Ooops haha.. I just read this post. Sigh.. I can't believe I'm saying this.. I miss the cold and soft texture of DQ icecream. Lol.. Anyway, the exam just ended for me. It's paradise everyday now..

Lol.. I wrote that months ago.. Anyway, you're applying scholarships right? Any news yet? I got two offers so far.. Conditional for BSc Nutrition at Nottingham and unconditional for BSc Microbiology at Aberdeen. Frankly, I'm quite in a dilemma right now.. I'm not sure which to choose; and to make things even worse, I'm feeling like just taking BSc Geology in UBD for the oppportunity to work with BSP. *Sighs* Help?
